A LOLER Examination, also known as a thorough examination, is a legal inspection carried out by a competent person to assess the safety and condition of lifting equipment under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER).
LOLER requires inspections at regular intervals: every 6 months for equipment lifting people, and every 12 months for other lifting equipment. Examinations are also needed after installation, repair, or exceptional circumstances.
LOLER applies to all lifting equipment including passenger lifts, goods lifts, hoists, forklifts, cranes, MEWPs, platform lifts, mobility hoists, and lifting accessories like slings or shackles.
